FP7 - the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union for R&D

Knowledge lies at the heart of the European Union's Lisbon Strategy to become the "most dynamic competitive knowledge-based economy in the world". The 'knowledge triangle' - research, education and innovation - is a core factor in European efforts to meet the ambitious Lisbon goals.

fp7_illustrationIn 2007, the EU Commission has launched the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) aiming at supporting a wide range of participants involved in Research & Development: from universities, through public authorities to SMEs and researchers in developing countries. FP7 overall budget is about €50 billions for the period 2007-2013. The EU 27 members states and the following associated countries participate in the FP7: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey. The broad objectives of FP7 have been grouped into four categories: Cooperation, Ideas, People and Capacities. For each type of objective, there is a specific programme corresponding to the main areas of EU research policy. All specific programmes work together to promote and encourage the creation of European poles of scientific excellence.
